Undergraduate
Most undergraduate research experiences in Philosophy are organized directly with a faculty mentor. Some recent student research experiences include
- independent study: a graduate seminar-style experience, a small group of students and a faculty mentor explore a selection of readings on a particular topic
- research seminar: a small group of students each develop and carry out their own research projects, guided by a faculty mentor and meeting regularly to share progress and exchange feedback
- research assistantships: student provide research support for a faculty member's project
- Honors Contracts: an option for students in the University Honors Program
If you're interested in any of these opportunities, just talk to a Philosophy faculty member!
Paid opportunities are only available sporadically, but course credits can be granted for any of these opportunities. The Department does maintain a shared office for the use of students involved in research.
Graduate
The Philosophy Department does not have a graduate program. Individual department members are affiliated with the graduate programs in Cognitive and Information Sciences, Interdisciplinary Humanities, and Public Health. Prospective graduate students seeking to work with us should explore those programs.
